The Mission of the Twelve
June
Matthew 9:36-10:8
Among all his disciples, Jesus had twelve who were chosen to be leaders.  We call them the Twelve Apostles.  When they were ready to spread the good news to others, Jesus sent them out among the villages.  They were to preach the gospel and heal the sick.  They took no money but relied on the kindness of people.
The Gospel Story Through Gameplay

The game is set in and around a small village.  Children are first asked to comfort four people around the synagogue.  Two people ask for prayer, one is sick and thirsty and another is a leper who is hungry.

Children are then asked to find Jesus near the synagogue.  They then see a cinema of Matthew 9:36-38 and are asked to go find the twelve disciples and bring them to Jesus.  After finding the twelve, children return to Jesus and see a cinema of Matthew 10:5-8.

Kids are told to help the Apostles find four people that need help.  Children must travel all around the countryside surrounding the town to find these people.  They also need to find rope and boards to fix a broken bridge.

After bringing the Apostles to the people who need help, children are instructed to find the Faith Focus and then enter the bonus round.

During the bonus round children may find a special teleport token that takes them to find many tokens in the river and then to a hidden cave.

LIGHT THE FIRE
This week children will find many people who need help.  Some ask for prayer, some are sick, some are demon possessed and some are hungry.

Ask the kids:
What are some ways that you can help people at your age?  In your community?  Around the world?

(Each month, “Light The Fire” will contain some fun gameplay activities related to the Gospel story. Use it to start a discussion with your children about this month’s Bible story game.)

PASTOR'S COMMENTS

In this month’s Gospel Champions game, children see Jesus tell his disciples to go to villages, healing people, raising the dead, casting out demons and feeding the hungry.  The children find many people who need help.  What can you do this week to find people in need and to meet those needs?

(The “Pastor’s Comment” can be used after the Gospel reading to get the kids excited about the lesson and the related game.)

St. Margaret of Scotland

Children find this special token in a field with sheep and a donkey.  They learn that St. Margaret of Scotland was married to King Malcom III.  She is the patron saint of Scotland, widows and large families.
